hopefully you can have a laugh at my swimming techniques i have been having a bit
of a good spell at going to the beech, cos very soon i would be on the desert

in The Gambia

It’s coming up to four weeks since I came over to the Gambia
My first few days were a bit of a relief to get to somewhere at last that many people speak English.
However my little found peace is probably in my imagination as time goes by I see the Gambia differently.
My observation at the moment is very limited as I have not been round most of the country but from what I have seen so far its mix really I can say I have been to the two extremes being in one affluent and a bit upmarket in Serekunda to a village like dwellings in Brikama
Even thou The Gambia are an English speaking country I find it hard to believe, the rate of illiteracy I don’t have any statistics but it must be very high. Even the children who go to school can’t seem to speak English.
A lot of the time you speak to someone who you assume can respond to you well but its always negative its quite frustrating, they must as be speaking French that at least I could say I was in the wrong country so, must make the effort I have spoken to few people around so I am going to pay a visit to the local schools to check the standard of teaching and the sort of syllables they follow
My stay in Brikama has not been the one of luxury but its bound to leave a lasting impact in my life
I have been in my friends compound for two weeks and in this time I have been working out flat recording music for his children, they are very talented musicians they play the Kora, djumbe, Ballaphone and the dumdum they are called the Konteh Kunda we have finished one CD already and working on the next project, however as the power situation here is acute we are limited by the electric company, which I understand is corrupt not really surprise allegedly any time there is foot ball match the power goes of because there are place where the have satellites and generators to show live premiership games so for them to maximise profit they pay the officials of the sub station to switch of, I have observed the times and there seem to be some very convenient coincidences I have another CD project with The Konteh Kunda family then I have some recordings of my own stuff .after that I am writing some stuff for my friend Dembo for his biography and some west African history
